The prisoner had issued one more appeal to the British people. but the British authorities declined to interwane further. Joheph Kristy. of Cleveland, who was convicted of the same offence. was hanged with McKay. On April 20th.. the Governor of California. reprieved Aieyander McKay, I British subject. an hour before the time fixed for his execution. McKay 3W" sentenced on a charge or kidnapping prison officials in a futile attempt to escape from San Quentin saol on “Hillary 16. 1935. The reprieve, which was {or 30 days, was granted in response to a request from the British Government. The case aroused conliderabie interest in Britain, where public opinion expressed itselt’ as being against the execution of .\lrKuy.
