INSTITUTE COURTS.

JUDGES COMMENTS. AT WAIKATO EAST MEETING. Interesting observations were made by Mrs J. Prenton, of Hamilton, who will judge the Women’s Institute Courts at the Waikato Winter Show, this year, when speaking at the “’ai‘kato East Federation meeting re- } cently. ‘ 1 Speaking on the arrangemeht of the courts at the Matamata Jubilee Show at which she judged, .\li‘s Prenton warned organisers against what she termed cluttering up a court. She said she had seen an ordinary night‘dress which would come within the thrift class hung full length in the front of a court, while a small exquisite work was tucked away in a corner at the back. She said greater uniformity of exhibits should be aimed at in such classes as preserves and Jams which would look better if mem—bers conferred and bottled them in jars of a fairly uniform size. She urged more classification of exhibits. The broad general outline of a court should be thought out first and details filled in afterwards. Knitting, batting and lace should be kept separate. In the space allowed, said Mrs Prenton, it was hard to have much originality, but a general design, with uniformity in outline and a prominent placing of the finer work could be aimed at. 1
