__+— CHAMIEI OF COMMIRCE. ACTIVE YEAR REVIE‘VED. (Special to Times.) PETARURU, Saturday. Mr J. R. O. Lockheed presided at the annual meeting oi’ the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce. There was a fair attendance or members. in hts report Mr Lockhead stated that the membership stood at 26, a slight increase on the year before. The failure oi’ farmers to complete returns compiled by the Chamher and the Farmers’ Union to show the capabilities or the district had prevented the society to a certain extent from remedying the dimculty that local i’armers experienced when endeavouring to obtain ilnance. However. it was felt that the success or the recent Agricultural and Pastoral Show had achieved the same objective. The report stated that the representations of the executive to the Post and Telegraph Department had resulted in improved telephone services on Sundays and holidays. For some time the society had been endeavouring- to obtain a cottage hospital. Although on October 1. 1935. Ml J Price. the \Vaikato Hospital Board representative, had met various local organisations to discuss the matter, the conference results had not been encouraging. Since then no ilnality had been reached.
