COUNCIL BUSINESS. PICTURE THEATRE PROPOSAL. (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE. Friday. The May meeting: or tlic Cambridge Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present the Mayor. Mr C ||. Priestley, and Messrs Edgar James, M. Wells. G. Calvert. \V. Moore and K. Wilkinson. The town clerk. Mr F. T. Ray, and engineer, Mr T. Dix, were also In Mr A. Macdonald, meat inspector or the Department or Agriculture, wrote requesting the council to comply with the last amendment ol' the Slaughtering and inspection Act by installing electric light in tuc inspector’s office at the abattoir and bv supplying fuel, it was stated that the matter was long overdue and early attention was desirable. The Mayor said considering the number or .'lock slaughtered per week he did not think additional expense at the abattoir was warranted. It was decided to write to the DepartIntent of Agriculture, supplying data of killings. etc., and asking if it Is the council’s j llab.llty to go to such expense. New Picture Theatre. The Cambridge branch or the New Zealand Labour Parly forwarded a copy of a letter winch had been sent to the Minister of Industries ancl Commerce in support of tore theatre in Cambridge. The branch consider a new picture tueatre in Cambridge was badly needed.
