TAUPIRI DRAINAGE.
RATING DIFFICULTIES REMOVED. MR R. COULTER’S FIRST BILL. (From Our Parliamentary Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Taupiri Drainage and River Board Empowering Bill, which aims principally at removing difficulties which iiave arisen in levying the rates over several small drainage board areas in the Taupiri Drainage and River District, was passed through all stages in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Tiie member in charge of the Bill, Mr R. Coulter (Government —Waikato), explained to the House that it was necessitated by the amalgamation of several local bodies and the conversion of their loans. The conversion under the existing law had led to difficulties in levying the special rates to pay interest and sinking funds on the converted loans. The Bill provided for the reclassification of the land affected and the restriction of grounds of appeal against the reclassification.
The Bill was reported to the House without amendments and passed on the voices, Mr Coulter receiving the customary congratulations for his first success with a Bill.
