STOP PRESS NEWS MOUNT EVEREST. NEWS OF EXPEDITION. LONDON, May 21. In a copyright message from Camp No. 1 Mr Hugh Ruttledge says: “After careful consideration I decided to bring the whole party from Camp 3 for a short rest at Camp 1. The recent heavy snow renders the upper slopes of Mount Everest temporarily unclimbablo, and is likely to remain for from seven to ten days. Everyone is well except for ono or two sore throats, and will all be stronger for a week at the lower altitude. The meteorological department reports that a monsoon is approaching south of the Bay of Bengal. We are carefully watching Mount Everest, and shall again advance up the glacier when the snow shows signs of clearing. I estimate that owing to the good acclimatisation it will be possible to reach the summit in eight days from Camp 1.” ITALIAN AIR FORCE. A BOMBING ACHIEVEMENT. ROME, May 21. An instance of Italian long-distance bombing is the achievement of a squadron which took off from the aerodrome at Lombardy, crossed the Apennines at a height of 15,000 feet, bombed a target marked out near Rome, and then returned to the base. The squadron averaged 162 miles an hour, and was guided by means of wireless for the greater part of the flight owing to bad weather. The exercise is described as the Anal phase of training for a normal bombing squadron. CRASH OF FLYING FLEA. FLYING INSTRUCTOR KILLED. LONDON, May 21. Squadron-Leader C. R. Davidson, chief flying instructor at Digby, was killed in the crash of a Flying Flea buHt. in his own spare time.
