HOCKEY TROPHY PLAY

OPENING TO-MORROW. OLD BOYS MEET KAIPAKI. CAMBRIDGE AND TECHNICAL PLAY. The first series of games in the initial round of the Waikato Hockey Association’s Killip Memorial Shield competition will he played at Steele Park to-morrow. The grounds are in excellent order and if the improvement shown in the preliminary round matches last week is sustained, two excellent matches should be provided.

Chief interest lies in the meeting of Old Boys and Kaipaki who, when playing in the preliminary round last Saturday, fought out a first-class match, honours going to the country team by the odd goal in five. Kaipaki’s hard hitting had Old Boys puzzled, but when the team had settled down and when Morgan had taken up position as -centre-half they more than held their own and kept the Kaipaki van at bay. It will be interesting to see the result of the return match with championship honours at stake. The second senior game will be played between Old Technicals and Cambridge. Neither has, as yet, shown convincing form, but. they have the capacity to improve and should be fairly evenly matched. -Colts have drawn the bye. Junior matches introducing the Burch Cup -competition will also be decided, the full draw being:— Senior. —Old Technicals v. Cambridge, No. 1 ground, 1.45 p.m.; umpires Messrs W. G. Fabling and F. B. L. Craig. Old Boys v. Kaipaki, No. 2 ground, 1.45 p.m.; umpires, Messrs R. W. Bennett and Granville; Colts a bye. Junior. —Hinemoa v.
