JOLLY BEGGAR’S CHANCE
There are several improving jumpers included in the field for the Te Kuiti Hurdles and the race promises to be one of the most interesting on the day’s attractive programme. Jolly Beggar takes pride of place In the handicap and despite his 10.12 last year’s Grand National winner may prove the hardest to dispose of. His speed on the flat coupled with his proved staying and fencing ability renders the Nigger Minstrel gelding an attractive proposition. On Wednesday morning he revelled In a schooling bout over six flights of hurdles and pulled up well. Saltsprav is a useful jumper when right and his third at Egmont the other week held promise of an early return. Modern Maid failed at Te Awamutu on Saturday, but is capable of improvement on that showing and she may be seen to better advantage here. One would favour the credentials of Prince of Orange more were the going right-handed, but nevertheless he should not fail to give a good account of himself In his present condition. While he failed to make any impression at. Waipa it must be remembered that the holding state of the going was against him. He may go better to-morrow and he is looking lit and well enough for anything. Indolent, Imperial Prince and Black Marlin are a useful trio handily placed in the handicap and they should add interest to proceedings. One to make greater appeal, howover, is Sporting Song, who appears to be definitely ori the improve. He finished second to Roxy in hack company on Saturday
Interesting Hurdle Field LUCIDUS A LIKELY LIGHT-WEIGHT SEVERAL IMPROVING JUMPERS
JOLLY BEGGAR. and while the class here is much ; superior to- that he met the other day he should account for more than beat' him. Among the improving hurdlers at Te Rapa of whom the best has yet to be seen is Lucidus, whose exhibition on i Saturday was full of promise. He jumps fast and cleanly and as he is sure to be benefited by Saturday’s outing he is by no means out of it here. Racewhip is a possibility, but the favourites will probably be— JOLLY BEGGAR SALTSPRAY SPORTING SONG,
