DEALINGS \\'ITH BRITISH BANKERS. A CIOMPLE’I‘E MISAPPREHENSION. ‘ (omcm Wireiess.) RUGBY. May 19. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, .\lr Neville Chamberlain, stated in the House of Commons to—day that his attention had been drawn to tlgures in a report issued by the Bank for Inter—national Settlements and to the fact that in certain quarters the inference had been founded on these figures that British bankers had increased their German credits in 19:15. The com—mittee of British short-term creditors had published a statement showing that this inference \\'ns based on a complete misapprehension.
The total Brillsh credits, both used and unused, decreased in 1935 by Just over £1,000,000. Larger reductions in the credits of other countries were mainly due to the willingness of the creditors to accept repayment, in Ger—man currency with the heavy capital loss which such repayment involved.
