RUAPEHU TRAGEDY. SEARCH PARTY MISSING. ROUGH CONDITIONS PROBABLE. WELLINGTON, Thursday. A search party of 20 which left the Chateau Tongariro at 2 o'clock this morning to attempt to rescue tho body of Mr J. A. Gordon from the crater lake had not been heard of up till 1.30 to-day. The Chateau reported then that conditions were calm but it was possible that the party would have to make the return Journey by a different route owing to probable rough conditions in the vicinity of Ruapehu. In the Arikikapakapa Cup Mrs McDonald (Te Awarnutu) beat Mrs Hutchinson (Gisborne), 4 and 2. AWARD QUASHED. PALMERSTON N., Thursday. On the ground that the jury's award of £2500 general damages to Mrs Edith Matilda Hodgson, of Whakaronga against the Farmers* Meat Company, in consideration of an accident, was excessive, His Honour, Mr Justice Ostler vacated the Judgment and ordered a pew trial.
