Savage) stated tn~rlay that caucus had approved of a Bill that \\'ill give Magistrates wider powers than the}. jhave at present to prevent eviction of tenants during the winter months. .Vlr Savage added that the measure would only he palliative and did not pretend to deal with the housing proh—lcm. That matter would he fully dealt ‘\vith in legislation which would he in—troduced during the second portion of the session. The only way to deal satisfactorily with the problem of rents was to build decent houses for the people, and to provide the people with decent, wages to enable them to pay the rent. The Government did not want private people who built, houses to lose money.
