Onewhetu came through his races ;il ilawera remarkably well, and looks in splendid order. His performances at To Rapa will be watched with interest in view of his Ellerslie engagements, comments a Ilawera report. In Qood Order. According to a southern report Horowhenua, Tooley Street and Horoliu are in splendid fettle for engagements ahead. They left Ricearton for Te Rapa on Tuesday. Cynloal Kid. Cynical Kid is the latest addition to J. Fryer’s already big team. Cynical Kid was sore after his last workout, j and his trip ndrth is doubtful. Fryer | has been notably successful with un- I sound horses. Enjoying a Spell. Chief Ranger has been resting at the Yaldhurst stables of M. B. Edwards since he won a double at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting last month. He wIV be trained in future by L. G. Morris at Marton, and he has gone north to his new quarters. Seoond Day Rides. J. Smith will be riding Ks.napa on the second day of the Waikato meeting; W. Rennie will have the mount q on En Tour, Billy Boy and Modern i Maid while Grateful will be piloted by R. W. Savage. W. Dowrick. an apprentice attached to H. Dulieu’s stable at New Plymouth will have his first ride in company on Mustang. On the Easy List. Punchestown struck himself while he was schooling last week, cutting j one of his forelegs, though not so severely as he did in a similar mishap last winter. In the meantime he is on i the easy list, but T. H. Gillett hopes to have him jumping again soon. ,j

Condition of Soloist. Soloist was a bit sore as a result of his fall at Hawera, but Is working . freely again, states a report. Not a I thoroughly sound horse. Soloist has to be taken a bit on trust. He is a proficient Jumper, and may be given a run on the second day at Te Rapa. These horses have all been doing work i Ellerslie way round, and will be accorded plenty of Hawera support. Riding Here. H. Callaghan, who rode Orae in his engagements at the recent Hawera meeting, is coming to Te Rapa to fulfill engagements here. His rides on the first day include Orac and Sirona. The services of the Gisborne apprentice, T. Dornan, who is attached to W. Gascomb’s stable, will also be! available over the meeting. He can! go to scale at 7.0. Silver Streak. Silver Streak is engaged at the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting, but after this week he may not do much more racing in New Zealand for some time. It is probable that, he will do his spring campaign in Australia. T. Hobbs has not made any definite plans abbut the date of his departure, but the intention is to travel at the same time as Silver Ring. August being a likely time for leaving. Unless something unforeseen occurs A. E. Ellis will also make tlie trip, and he will ride both horses. Finishing On. Arctic. Star was saddled up for over the batons at, Te Awamutu on Satur- j day in preference to tlie Park Steeple- ■ chase. He was a long way back for over half the distnnoe. but then commenced lo move up and was staying on solidly in third position at the end. Arctic Star jumped well and lie should ho much harder to dispose of in some of his forthcoming engagements. He was engaged on the first day of the Waikato meeting, Iml did not accept. However, tie is entered for the Melville Hack Steeplechase and 1 lie Waikato Hurdles on Hie second day, and will llion go on to Ellerslie to race at ; the Great Northern meeting. An Easy Win. i Woodful was a good horse on 11k* fiat, particularly in heavy going. He made liis debut as a hurdler in llic Oraknu Hurdles at Te Awamutu and • had the conditions lo suit him. Ihc only question being his jumping ability. | However, lie soon set all fears at rest on that score, and with Eucidus lie carried on the running throughout, ! and. fencing splendidly, won in very easy fashion. Great. Northern candldate. King's Archer looked to be in great heart when he paraded for the Park Steeplechase at Te Awamutu on Sat—urday, and with his steadier of 11.10 im ran a really good race. He was a good way back early, but, along the back ihe last. time went up into fourth position. He was still there crossing the top and into the straight, though he was a long way behind the leaders. However, he finished on well to get sixth. and it was a really encouraging performance. seeing that it was his first race over the big fences. King‘s Archer is not engaged here on Saturday, but he is in the King Country Steeplechase on the second day.

Stayed on Well. Roxy was produced in excellent condition for his engagement in the Hack Hurdles at Te Awamutu. ‘He “35 al—ways handy and m? to the lead cross—ing the top, Spo ting Song joining him just before the entl‘ance to the straight. The pair fought. out the issue, but Roxy proved a hit. too good at the last jump and beat Sporting Song home by a length. Roxy Jumped well throughout and he should add further to his record during the next few weeks. At the recent Auckland meeting he won the Mangere Steeple—'uhaso in good style and on Saturday is engaged in the \Va‘ikato Steeple—chase. in which he has the minimum. In his present form should keep the opposition husy.
