AN IMPRESSIVE CONFERENCE

GERMAN PEASANT ORGANISATION. Recently there was held the annual meeting of the German Peasant Organisation in Goslar, the beautiful, old town at the foot of the Harz mountains. For nearly ten days group leaders, both men and women, of the German Peasant Organisation from all over met and consulted together. It was an impressive gathering, some 5,000 strong. The town of Goslar was decorated from end to end with flags, streamers and garlands made of spruce twigs, and looked as festive as a village fair. Visitors from other countries, many also in traditional dress, had come, people interested in diverse branches of agriculture, or rural economics and sociology. The representatives from the countrywomen’s organisations in Norway, Hungary, Switzerland were there, and Baroness Schroeder represented the Associated Countrywomen of the World. The meetings were held in the great Goslar Hall, completed only a few days before. A fine speech from Minister Darre was followed by others given by experts on the different branches of the stupendous work of the German Peasant Organisation, explaining what is being done for the farmers and agriculture generally. Everywhere in this great undertaking women are working side by ■ide with the men on co-equal terms.
