EMBARGO LIFTED.
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ORANGEB. MEETING DOMINION’S NEEDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. “ For some time the Government has been giving consideration to the question of the importation of oranges which will he required this year to supply the Dominion’s needs,” said the Minister of Finance and Customs, the Hon. W- Nash, in an interview. “ As is well known,” he said, “ the prosperity of the people of Cook Islands depends to a considerable extent on the exportation of oranges to New Zealand and the Government desires as far as possible that the islanders should be assured of a reasonable opportunity of marketing their product in the Dominion. However, even with Cook Inland oranges available it would be necessary to import supplies from other sources to meet the public requirements and it has, therefore, been decided to relax the embargo on South Australian oranges and allow 50,000 cases of South Australian fruit to be imported during June, July and August. Should these not be sufficient, the Government will consider allowing further shipments from South Australia.”
