GOSSIP FROM ALL PARTS.
Providing no further rain falls the track at Te Rapa will be in splendid order for the opening day of the Waikato meeting on Saturday. Adalene’s Earnings. Adalene’s earnings this season so far total £4lO. Cromwell. Cromwell, who was to have been turned out following the Waipa meeting. Is being kept in work and yesterday morning was worked over several rounds on the Inner plough. An Open Issue. The issue in the first division of the Otorohanga Hack, on paper, reads decidedly more open than the second division. There are few of the fifteen runners who cannot be conceded every chance. Seoond-day Rides. J. McLaughlin, who will be riding Count Roussillon and Calcutta on the first day, has been booked to ride Benighted and Allegretto in their engagements on the second day at Te Rapa. Modern Maid. While she failed in her engagement at Te Awamutu Modern Maid is capable of improvement on that showing. At Avondale she was runner-up to King Mestor after making the pace for the latter part of the Journey. J. Muir Engaged. J. Muir, who returned to the winning list when he gave a patient exhibition on Windsor Lad home in the big ; cross-country event at Te Awamutu. ! has been engaged to ride Imperial Prince on the second day of the Waikato meeting. Condition of Coronla. In her last two gallops at Te Rapa Ooronis has not succeeded in burning up the tracks and yesterday Hawthorn finished In front of her over five furlongs In time which was the poorest of the morning over the distance. Qay Papa. Gay Papa’s effort on the second day of the Avondale meeting, when he finished third to Sergia and Mainland, held promise of better things and he should not bo long in capturing the thick end of the purse. Prior to the Avondale fixture he ran third at Rotorua. Indolent. Indolent’s last appearance was on the second day of the Takapuna meeting at Ellerslie in November last year when he ran second to King's Archer In the Kawau Hurdles with 10.2. He will need only to reproduce that, form to take a hand in the. finish of the Te Kulti Hurdles on Saturday. Ohanoes of Lllbert. While his latest efforts have been disappointing Lilbert’s form on the second day of the Rotorua meeting was good and he was unlucky to be beaten. Lately he has been hitting out. freely on the tracks and may soon make amends. On Saturday he is an acceptor for the Maiden Handicap here.
Queen Nona. Queen Nona, whose second to Sebrof on the second day at Avondale was full of promise, was responsible for the best half-mile of the morning’s programme at Waipa headquarters yesterday. She Is entered or the second division of the Otorohanga Hack on Saturday and should beat more than aooount for her. Wahlne Relhl. Wahine Relhi is entered for the open sprint on the first day of the Waikato meeting and as she has been working as well as ever she must be every chance with the handy impost of 7.1. Yesterday she dashed over five furlongs in 1.7$ —which was good time under the conditions. Looks Well. Trouvaille is looking a pioture of condition and appears to have benefited from the racing at the Egmont meeting. In a trial over five furlongs yesterday he was revelling in his work over the deciding stages and finished full of running. Boughal Fit. Roughal, with a solid weight up, clocked the best figures for half-a-mile at Te Rapa yesterday and has taken no harm from hts exertions at Hawera. The big Acre gelding is missing from the acceptance list for the sprint here on Saturday, but if started the second day he will bear keeping in mind. Arawa Rose. Arawa Rose has been shaping well in her trials at Te Awamutu and is set down for a reappearance in the President’s Handicap on the first day here. Yesterday morning she was responsible for a creditable effort over a mile in 1.52 which was good time considering the state of the going.
Le Ohasseur. So far Le Chasseur has proved a disappointment, but taking a line through the quality of his trials at headquarters he should show Improvement in Jiis engagements at the Waikato meeting which opens on Saturday. Yesterday morning he shaped particularly well over half-a-mile in •company with Orao and Hunting Mars. Tradesman. After the way he shaped in a trial at Te Rapa yesterday morning one must revise one’s opinion of the condition of Tradesman. He has made rapid progress since being brought in a short ime ago and it is quite on the cards that he will race prominently here on Saturday. Especially in the event of a holding track he will have to be seriously reckoned with. Superior Guard. Superior Guard, who will be remembered for his fine effort over three furlongs at the December meeting of the Waipa Racing Club when he finished ahead of Stretto and Gallio, will be making his first appearance in company on Saturday at Te Rapa. He is looking very burly at present and although not having done any fast work of late his prospeots cannot lightly be discarded.
Prlnoe of Orange. The chances are that Prince of Orange will be seen to better advantage here than was the case at Te Awamutu, where the heavy nature of the track was not suited to him. Present Indications are for reasonably firm going on Saturday In which case A. J. Julian’s charge will need to be taken Into every account. He looks fit and well enough. Olaoquedoon. Diacquedoon. who last, week In his schooling efforts over the big country showed an entire lack of confidence, shaped satisfactorily yesterday. It was the post and rails that proved his undoing last, week and he will therefore have to be taken on trust in the big steeplechase event on the second day of the Waikato meeting. Matoru. Matoru Is definitely on the improve and his extra poundage should not stop him in the first division of the Otorohanga Hack in which he has now 7.11. If is the improving hack that, appeals for a race of this type and the fact that, he looks all the better for his outing at Waipa makes Matoru look good prospect for engagements here. King Rey. King Rey appears to he coming right again if his effort on the tracks >esterday can be, taken as a true indication. In the past he demonstrated that he was a somewhat sluggish track-galloper so that his sis for ilf i mile yesterday was a most commendable effort. It was thought not many months ago that the racetrack had seen the last of this promising son of Raceful.
