SEEKING TREASURE?
CAPTAIN KIDD’S HOARD. MISBING TRAWLER REPORTED. SEEN AT SALVAGE ISLANDS. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received May 19, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, May 18. The British steamer Avoceta advises Lloyd’s that when passing the Salvage Islands, 180 miles west of Madeira, yesterday, she saw anchored a fishing vessel answering the description of the trawler Girl Pat. Several boats were working close inshore. The islands are a small rocky group, dependencies of Madeira, and are used mainly as fishing bases. The Girl Pat, it is suggested, is searching for Captain Kidd's pirate treasure, reputed to be hoarded on the Salvage Islands. A resident of Grimsby who once participated in the search, states that Captain Osborne Is in possession of rough treasure charts. Captain Osborne often questioned him regarding them, and hinted that he contemplated a search. The British Government sent an expedition in 1930, but the treasure was not found. On May 16 it was stated that Lloyd’s agents throughout the world have been instructed to keep a look-out for a North Sea trawler, Girl Pat, which the Admiralty will declare a pirate if it is proved that, the-master (Captain Osborne) and crew of four seized her. Jn that case it would be the duty of those on board every ship flying the British flag to assist in apprehending her.
