CHAMPIONSHIP IN ENGLAND. SIX TITLE-HOLDERS BEATEN. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received May 19, 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 18. The six reigning champions were defeated in the first round of the women's golf championship at Southport. Miss Bridget Newell defeated Miss Wanda Morgan (holder), 3 and 1; Miss Glutting (American) defeated Mrs Yare (American title-holder), 3 and 1: Miss Phyllis Wade defeated Mrs Garun (English champion), 2 and i ; Miss Diana Fishwlck defeated Miss iKleben (Welsh champion), one up.
The Irish and Scottish cnampions were also beaten. Mrs Walker defeated Miss Jessie Anderson, 2 and 1; Miss Pam Burton defeated Miss Plumptun by one hole; Mrs Greenlees defeated Miss Pentony by one hole.
