EXPULSION OF MEMBER. THE AUSTRALIAN LABOUR PARTY. OVERTHROW OF MR LANG LIKELY, United Press Assn.— Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received May 19, 11 am.) SYDNEY, May 19. Mr J. S. Garden, M.P., was expelled from the Labour Party at a meeting of the Stale Australian Labour Party Executive last night by'iiineteen vote* to four. Mr Garden appeared before the executive to explain the charges of alleged disloyalty made by him at a meeting of Ihe Labour Council in March. Mr Garden, in his defence, repeated many of his allegation*, but admitted that certain other charges which lie had made were capable of qualification. | The executive held that Mr Garden j had failed to substantiate his charges I against the president. Mr P. J. Keller, land the organising secretary, Mr J. B. Martin, and that Hie charges were j disruptive and likely to impair the unity of the party. The Herald says that the expulsion of Mr Garden, it Is expected, will precipitate one of the biggest crlsea In the history of the Lang Labour movement, which, according to many Labour officials, may result in the overthrow of Mr Lang.
