ADVICE TO YOUTH.

STEER CLEAR OF TROUBLE. BRITAIN THE SHEET-ANCHOR. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Presiding at the annual meeting of the Wellington Boys’ Institute, the Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, said one of the fundamental objectives of the Institute was character building. No one could attempt to measure in pounds, shillings and pence the value of such an institution to the budding manhood of the country. Those in touch with developments taking place in the world today, said the Minister, sometimes shuddered with fear to think what might happen and the task of young boys was to try and steer their country clear of those calamities and tragedies that might destroy every institution worth-while-in his opinion the British Crown represented the sheet-anchor of civilisation and the safety-zone of the world. The British Empire was the only country that held fast to human liberty and to-day was the beaconlight for the rest of the world. It was the referee holding the scales of Justice. The task of holding fast to those marvellous traditions and principles that were so dear would rest upon the shoulders of the boys of today ill a few years.
