Pigs.—A large yarding of fat pigs came forward. Baconers firmed in value, while porkers showed no alteration. Good quality baconers sold from £3 5s to £3 8s; medium weights, £2 18s to £3 is; light, £2 10s to £2 17s; heavy porkers, £2 2s to £2 8s; medium weights, 35s to £2 ; light, 27s to 335. Competition for an average entry of store pigs was keen and prices advanced. The advertised Berkshire boars sold from 5$ gns to 64 gns. Sows in pig, £2 10s to £3 ss; good stores, 18s to 235; slips, 12s to 475; weaners, 5s to 11s Gd.
SHEEP AND CATTLE SALE. NGONQOTAHA FIXTURE. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report having held a special sale of sheep and cattle at Ngongotaha on Monday, on account of the Government Ngakura Development Scheme. The stock came forward in good order, and a large attendance of buyers from the Waikato and Bay of Plenty districts competed freely for the offering. Bidding w r as especially keen for a choice line of woolly ewe hoggets, which realised up to 28s 9d, while breeding ewes were also eagerly sought after. A line of 569 light weight wethers realised 26s Id. The in-calf cows sold at fully equal to recent quotations. We quote:—Sheep: 10 well-woolled ewe lambs, 28s 9d; small, 20s 3d; 332 mixed age ewes, 28s 9d to 29s 9d; 183 s.m. eWes, 245; 72 s.m. ewes (poor condition), 19s 6d; cull ewes, 10s 6d; 5G9 light prime w-ethers, 26s Id; 406 f.c. wethers, 24s 4d to 25s 4d; cull wethers, 18s 8d; store wethers, 23s to 245. Cattle: 47 P.A. breeding cows in-calf to P.A. and Red Poll bulls, £3 12s; 32 P.A. and Hereford cows incalf to P.A. and Red Poll bulls, £5 15s; 80 Hereford cows in-calf in P.A. and Red Poll hulls, £5 15s. PUTARURU STOCK SALE. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report having held their Putaruru stock sale yesterday, when a good yarding of mostly second quality fat and boner cows came forward. Competition for fat cattle was good, while no alteration was shown for boners. Potter bulls showed little variation. Dairy Cattle. —There was a good yarding, including the advertised herd on account of Mr A. M. Leslie, which came forward in good condition and showing well in calf The attendance was good, but competition was only fair, partly owing to the earliness of the dairying season for the Putaruru district. Despite tills fact, practically a total clearance resulted. Pigs.—There was a medium yarding of fat pigs, comprising mostly porkers. In sympathy with the drop in schedule, prices were lower than those ruling at late sales. A full yarding of stores, no doubt owing to the shortage of feed, was hard to quit. We quote.—Cattle: Light fat cows and heifers, £4 to £4 10s; killable cows, £3 5s to £3 18s; heavy boner cows, £2 14s to £3 2s; medium boner cows. 38s to £2 10s; lighter, 20s to 30s; bulls, £2 10s to £3 10s. Dairies: Good quality Jersey and Jersey cross cows, early caivers, £5 to £5 10s; August caivers. £i to £4 15s; good quality Shorthorn cows, August caivers, £4 to £4 2s Gd; later, £3 10s to '£3 15s; more backward sorts, £3 to £3 10s; small and backward in-calf heifers, £3 2s 6d to £4. Pigs: Medium baconers, £2 15s to £2 18s; heavy porkers, 35s to 38s; medium, 31s to 345; light, 26s to 30s; unfinished, 20s to 255; choppers, 31s to 38s; large stores, 16s tc 19s 6d; medium, ils to 15s; slips, 8s to 12s; weaners, 2s Gd to 6s 6d. CLEARING BALE AT MANAWARU. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report having held a clearing sale on account of Mr W. F. Hudson at Manawaru yesterday. There were two herds offered, the first, averaging £4, while the second, which were in better condition and showing nearer profit, were more keenly sought, and realised an average of £5. Bidding was good for forward cows, but late calves and unsound cows were harder to quit. , Pigs and implements sold at ruling rates. Realisations were:—Best Jersey cross cows, £7 to £8 2s 6d, other early caivers, £4 10s to £6 10s, good Jersey cows, late caivers, £3 to £3, other late caivers, £2 to £3, heavy fat cows, £4 6s to £3 ss, forward conditioned cows, £2 10s to £3 ss, unsound cows, 30s to £2 ss; farm horses, £25 10s to £34; sow with litter, £4, sows to farrow, £2 12s to £3 ss, slips 8s 6d to lis Gd. CAMBRIDGE BTOOK SALE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agpncy Company, Limited, Hamilton, report as follows on their Cambridge stock sale yesterday. Fat and store cows, mostly of the Jersey breed, came forward in greater numbers than tlie average. There was also a bigger proportion of good to heavy quality fat cows than is generally cutered. For all classes a steady sale resulted at the slightly lower values ruling in other localities this week. Schedule prices for stores and boners were, however, fully equalled, while for butchers’ cattle Franktoi! values were maintained. Little remained unsold. The small advertised dairy herd were a mixed lot. In addition, we yarded a good number of dairy cows and heifers from various vendors. All sold well, good cows close up making the better value. A few bulls and calves sold on a par with recent quotations. The entry of pigs was an abnormally heavy one, but fat pigs were in comparatively short supply.
