The demand still continues strong, and United States buyers were operating keenly. Inferior grades, such as summers, were from Id to 2d lower than last sale, but all autumn, incoming and winter sorts were on an average 3d to 6d higher. First winter bucks realised 126 id per lb., or approximately 2s each, whilst first winter does brought 98id per lb-. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated May 16. from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow. —The market is very quiet, with quotations nominal and changedHemp.—Manila; The market is firmer. ‘K ” grade for June-August shipment sold at £2O ss. Stocks in London on May 1 were 13,021 bales against 11.381 bales at the same time last year. Sisal: The market is firm and active with good demand. Prices have advanced. May-July and JulySeptember shipments sold at the close at £2B. New Zealand: The market is nominal and unchanged. Stocks in London on M• > i were 116 tons, against 29 tons at the same time last year. Fruit—“ Australian Star.” and “Rangitata” shipments discharged in good condition. Apples: The market Is overstocked, and prices are weakening- Cox's Orange, 10s to 16s: Otago, Its to 22s 6d; Jonathan and Delicious, 8s 6d to 10s 6d; Cleopatra, Dunn's Favourite and Ballarat, 8s 6d to 9s 6d.
