THE WOOL MARKET
CONFIDENCE DISTURBED. TEBTING TIME COMING. PROSPERITY OF HOME TRADE. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received May 18, 3 p.m.) LONDON, May 17. Dawsons, commenting on the wool outlook, say that the slight recession at the opening London sales, though a necessary adjustment of the rates in March owing to the scarcity, has disturbed confidence. The paucity of supplies during the next four months should tend to lift values, but the fact remains that topmakers cannot make higher prices. The European outlpok continues an unsettling factor. France is reported to be holding stocks of raw materials as an insurance against devaluation, whjch may come on the market for realisation. The summer will be the testing time ,of values, which, despite the strong statistical position of raw material, are sustained only by the remarkable prosperity of the home trade.
