THAMEB OLD BOYB DEFEAT MAORIS. (Special to Times.) TE AROHA, Monday. In fine weather and on a dry ground the Thames Old Boy a and Te Aroha Maori team tried conclus'ons on Saturday, before a fair attendance of spectators. Maoris kicked off, but Old Boys at once , assumed tbe aggressive. Jackson relieved the pressure with a smart run and a well-judged kick, and the Old Boys forced the play, Goodwin stemming a determined rush by Maoris. In fast, loose play. Old Boys took the ball down to the goal line, and T. McLaughlin saved with a strong fending dash. Tamati and Rua headed a forward dash, and a long kick by Mortimer allowed Maoris to get well up to the line, where in scrambling play they were awarded a penalty kick, from which Maloney goaled successfully. With a brilliant loose rush Old Boys got practically the length of the field, but In concerted action Rowe, Edmonds and Jackson took the play back. With the ball at their feet Storey and T. McLaughlin got well up the field, the latter Just missing a score.

In the second spell the Maoris opened with vim, but the tackling of Old Boys stopped the determined efforts time and again. Nothing daunted, Maoris kept attacking vigorously, and snapping up the ball cleverly Tukf raced over to score. Terriers’ kick Tailed. A loose rush by Maoris was stayed by Ray, and the ball going to Hamilton he crossed the line to score. Old Boys 6, Maoris 6.
