WINDSOR LAD.
Prior to the Waipa meeting the Little England gelding Windsor Lad gave an impressive exhibition over a round of the steeplechase oourae and as a result of that trial his prospeots at Te Awamutu were rated high In oertaln quarters. Under the olrcumstanoes hie return on the win machine, close on a soore, was altogether a false one. The experience he has had recently on the hunting field stood to him on Saturday and he should win further for his connections.
Stormy Weather. Stormy Weather has done little racing and his showing in the Trial Handicap on Saturday held promise of improvement in the near future. He went a good race while his condition lasted. Parquet’s Form. Parquet’s form at Te Awamutu was most disappointing ns she had been working exceptionally well in her trials at Te Rapa in I lie weeks preceding her Waipa engagement. She may do better at Te Rapa as her Waipa showing was too poor to be true. Goes Well. The Acre three-ycar-old, Matoru, endorsed the good impression he had created in his work on the tracks at Te Rapa when lie won attractively in the Arapuni Handicap. Always handily placed in the running he came through in the straight to give nothing else a chance over tlie deciding stages. Tills member of J. F. Tutchen's string broke his maiden status at the last Paeroa gathering and as a result of bis form there he was backed confidently In ills engagement on the second day of the Avondale Jockey Club’s meeting where the best tie could manage was a moderate third after looking likely at the distance. Will Do Better. Prince of Orange did not show to advantage at. the Waipa meeting, but his failure should not be held too strongly against him as lie was never at. his best on a yielding track. It was encouraging to note that little fault could be found with his jumping and he will need only to strike a reasonably firm track to take a lot of beating. During the weeks preceding the Waipa fixture nothing had been schooling better at. local headquarters than the aged son of Yalkyrian and Lassie Doen.
Dark Shadow. Prior to the Te Awamutu meeting Dark Shadow has been asked few serious questions on the local tracks and it will be surprising of he does not produce something better when next he sports silk. Lion Heart. Lion Heart again proved a disappointment. He had every chance in the running and after being handily placed at the turn be failed to go on with it. In the final gallops on Thursday be was responsible for the best figures over six furlongs during the morning’s programme. Mangukaha. The Little England mare Mangukaha had a stiff poundage to handle in the Arapuni Handicap and as she is not a very robust type it is small wonder that, she was experiencing the pinch over the final stages of seven furlongs. However, she showed her customary early brilliance by assisting in the pacemaking for the greater part of the journey—and she. will be improved by (he outing, her first for a brief spell.
