TRAFFIC BREACHES.
MOTORISTS BEFORE COURT. VARIETY OF CHARGES HEARD. A variety of charges was heard against motorists in the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, before Mr J. G. L Hewitt, S.M., to-day. For cranking his motor-car while it was in gear and while the brakes were not affixed. Ernest Devey was fined £1 with costs, 13s. Senior-Sergeant G. H. Lambert explained that defendant had parked bis car in Victoria Street and when starting it in gear it crashed through a plate glass window. It was a Friday night and with the many people about it. was fortunate no one was injured. For failing to keep to the left of the studs in the middle of the road. James Terence Hawke. William McLean. Thomas Henry Powell. Stanley Pratt and Donald Wilson were each fined £1 with costs. Negligent Driving Charge. Pleading guilty to a charge of negligent driving, John R. Vercoe was convicted and ordered to pay costs amounting to £2 3s 6d. The seniorsergeant stated that defendant was driving his car along the Tc Rapa road, and, dazzled by approaching headlights, he collided with a truck. Prosecuted by Traffic-Inspector L F. Denz, G. A? Clifford was fined 30s with costs for operating a noisy mo-tor-cycle. In imposing the fine His Worship remarked that some motorcycles made a noise like a gun battery. Driving a motor-car with only one headlight cost T. E. Devey £1 and costs. Mr Hewitt said sometimes one headlight on the wrong side was more dangerous than no lights at all. Heavy Traffic Offences. Breaches of the heavy traffic licensing laws cost Claude Kendall and J. G. Morris 10s with costs, while Richard Glover and Wilfred Glover, both of whom were charged with overloading and exceeding their licensed loads were each fTned £5 with costs. For exceeding the speed limit allowed by his heavy goods license, A. A. Ronalds was fined £2 with costs, while Leslie. Rothwell was fined a similar amount also for exceeding his licensed load and for exceeding the road classification. Exceeding the road classification on a back road cost the Vacuum Oil Company £1 with
