NEXT WEEK’S BILLS
TRANSPORT & MORTGAGES PRIME MINISTER’S STATEMENT. GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSALS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The Right Hon. M. J. Savage stated, in an interview to-day, that the Transport Bill would be introduced into the House on Tuesday. A Bill covering the mortgage legislation would come down later in the week —on Wednesday, if possible. The Bill would be something o nthe lines of the Reserve Bank Bill, and would remove the private element out of the Mortgage Corporation altogether. Control would be on a basis similar to the State Advances Department. Mr Savage said he was still desirous of adjourning at the end of the month, but there was a certain amount of business to be done and the House would sit till it was completed. It was not at present proposed to sit on Mondays hut the hours of sitting would depend on the progress made. Reactionary things were done In a night in the past, and there was no reason why progress should not be mcd» In the same way. The Prime Minister said the Government would do anything to get its legislation through. ARBITRATION BILL. REPORTED TO COUNCIL. DATE AMENDMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill was reported back to the Legislative Council from the Labour Bills Committee with amendments to-day. The amendments made stipulate that September i is to be the date on which the 40-hour week shall operate. An amendment has also been made protecting employers against proceedings in cases where they have been deceived by workers in regard to their ages.
