BOWLING SEASON.

THE CLAUDELANDS CLUB. LAST YEAR IN REVIEW. INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP. A successful year in all branches of club activities is reported in the annual report of the Claudelands Bowling Club, to be presented at the annual meeting next Wednesday evening. At tho outset Ihe report refers to the death of Mr G. R. 13. Speight, a foundation member and an officer of the club up till the time of his death. He was always actively and energetically interested in the club’s affairs and his genial presence would be missed. Membership had again increased and at April 30, 1936, was 97, showing an increase of 18 members, continued the report. From the interest shown a further influx of members may be expected. Finances were also in a satisfactory stale, there being a surplus of £43 15s fid on the year's working. On the whole subscriptions were paid promptly. Condition of Greens. Access from ' Grey street was also investigated, but permanent access could not be obtained.

Reference is made in the report to Die success of several tournaments and other fixtures conducted by the club. Club Competitions. ■Club competitions were keenly contested and resulted as follows: Christmas handicap, R. H. Whitten; runner-up, H. D. Cobb. Junior championship, G. P. Belton; runnerup, A. J. White. Handicap singles, R. Peters; runner-up, A. W. Webber. Handicap pairs, G. Stubbs and H. M. Baker; runner-up. A. W. Webber and H. J. Paton. The Matthews Ferns competition was played as often as circumstances permitted, and the Fraser Shield was won by J. P. Joyce, J. R. Fow, sTßobson, A. Anderson (s). The committee also considered the advisability of instituting a ladder competition in the club. Expressions of thanks to all those who assisted in the successful functioning of Iho club during the year concludes the report.
