REQUEST WRITTEN IN VERSE. \ AN AVENUE OF \VOES. ALDE'BMAN ASKS FOR BEER. United Press Assn—Elec. Tel. Copyright. SYDNEY. May 14. The example of a Melbourne person who on March 3 successfully appealed in verse for an extension of time in which to pay taxes has been followed by a ratepayer or Hunter‘s Hill, Sydney. with like success. The taxpayer invited aldermen to morning tea at his home and to inspect a footpath, adding: " Our pilgrim feet must daily tread This avenue of woes. There two—edged Ilints lie passively In wait for martyred toes." One alderman. emulating the \'ietorla Tax Commissioner. replied in verse, concluding: " But if you want it soon to stop. (Mark the aldermen's cheer}. Then please out out the morning tea, Uur hobby still is beer.”
