ASSAILANT OVERPOWERED. SPINSA'I'ILIN AT POINT CHEVALIER AUCKLAND, Friday. Mr J. G. Worboys. officer In charge of the Palm. Chevaller branch of the Auckland Snvlngs Bank. was the hero of a sensetlonul eplsode In the bank yoaterday afternoon. In whlch In a fierce man-to-man struggle after the Intruder had dulc hlm a heavy 'blow on the head wlth a place of load plplng. he overcame hla unllant.
Mr \Vorlroys was alone when the man entered and attacked him. dealing him a blow on the head. .\lr Worboys immediately closed “1“]. his assailant and utter a severe struggle got the in—truder down and got the piping from him.
The man was apparently cowed by this development, and Mr \Vorboys opened the door and asked a man (Mr J. Holden}, who was standing in the doorway to come inside, .\lr Holden telephoned to the head ot'llce and com—municated with the police. whilst .\lr Worboys produced a revolver which kept the intruder passive until assist—ance arrived, and he was taken into custody. The man who gave the name of James Billing. his age as 40, and his occupation (ls huehmun, was lodged in the cells, and he will he charged at the Police Court to-duy that with intent to facilitate the commission of a crime, that or theft, he (lid by violent means attempt to render James Godfrey Worhoys incapable of resistance. Mr \\'urhoys has a large swelling on his forehead and a out. near the left eye as the result of the blow from the piping. but went. home after receiving attention from a chemist. lie is a strongly-built man. married, and has been on the staff or the Savings Bank for it} years. lie was appointed to Point Chevalier two years ago.
