‘ SEVERAL USEFUL EFFORTS. ‘ LION HEART PLEASES. PARQUET‘S SMART ROUND. 3 (By " Martian") The course proper. about 54 feet out from the rails. was in comparatively good order this morning for the final gallops of horses claiming engagements at the approaching VVaipe meeting. The weather was fine 101‘ the greater part although light showers were experienced towards the completion of the morning‘s pros'amme. Several useful efforts were recorded. the best of the morning being those of Lion Heart, Sirona and Parquet. Mangukaha (Day) finished in front of Respectful (McLaughlin) at the completion of five furlongs in 1.8 4-5, the initial furlong being cut out in 13 i-ss. Both horses are in good order for engagements ahead. Orac (Day), who is bearing a healthy appearance, came home from the three furlong peg in 405. any Seton—Prince Acre. There was little 'between Gay Seton (Gilmer) and Prince Acre (\\’inder) ‘at the end of six furlongs in 1524—3 useful effort. Silver Briar, who was brought over from Claudelands, was restricted to strong three-quarter pace. Sirona (Winder) pleased by the manner in which she finished three lengths clear of Racewhip (calmer)Wlth Kanapa a similar distance away at the completion of a circuit encompassed ln 2.9, the first half—mile be—ing run in 565 and the six furlongs in 1.26}. Sirens. is looking well and should run prominently when next produced. Flt-quot Over I Round. Parquet (Goulsbro), picked up by Racem-osus, Grand Light and Little Saint at the six furlong post, was timed to complete the round in 2.9, the last six furongs being cut out in 1.24, Parquet finished in front and was doing her work well in the straight. The best six furlong effort of the morning was credited to Lion Heai't (Winder) who accounted for Curlew (Ozoune) at the end of six fur-longs in 1.22 I—s. He ran his first fprlong in 135, the two in 25¢}s and the three furlongs in 405 and \\‘as running on strongly at the finish. A Smart HI". Gloucester and Matoru finished practically on terms over half—a—milc in 53h. and pleased by the manner in which they revelled in their work. Over a similar distance Dust Up (Mathers) clocked 56 1-55. Dark Shadow (Glading) was not doing his best to run six furlongs in 1.28. He is looking {it and well for his engagement on Saturday. Wahine Reihi (O. Mclnally) was shading Sergla (Giadlng) at the finish of seven furlongs in 1.36, the last six furlongs in 1.24. Sinking Fund (Ozonne) was clear of Black Man (Long) over the last six of seven fui'longs run in 1.23, Sinking Fund should give a good account of himself in the \Voodstock Stakes at Te Awamutu on Saturday. Coronlo Over Five. Coronis (Glading) came home from the the furlong post in 1.10;. Lilbert (Gilmer) finished in front of Stanstead iCampbell) over three furlongs in 401%.. while over a similar distance Whirling (Bowden) and Stormy Weather (Goulsbro) clocked 3995.
Prince of Oran-5e (Cotter) was doing 'better than Diacquedoon (McLaughlin) at the completion of a round encompassed in 2.11, the first six furlvongs in 1.2%. Prince of Orange is in nice condition for the Orakau Hurdles on Saturday. Basouli and Arctic Star were restricted to strong half-pace work over a round. Tradesman and Leo Colossus were separately sprinted down the straight. ’l‘here was ‘little between 'King Rey (McLaughlin) and Racette (Gilmer) over the. deciding stages of seven fur;longs in 1.111. tour Hurdles. i Ra-cewhip (Gilmer) and Kanapa 1 (Smith) Jumped two hurdles along the back of the course in satisfactory ‘manner.
