' The Legislative Council met at 11 o'clock this morning and went into cOmmittee on the Primary Products Marketing Bill. The Hon, .\l. Alexander protested iasainst the method by which the lie--1 bility of any person accused of selling ‘dalry produce at anything except the fixed price should be determined. The Hon. .\l. Pagan said the clause ‘Was necessary, as without it the ‘Bill iwould be weakened. The Government had to protect itself against "Bootilegslng" of any desoription. The Hon. R. Masters moved an [amendment providing {or a referendum iof dairy farmers before the Bill was ipassed. the cost of the referendum to be borne by the Dairy Board. The Hon. .\l. Fagan submitted that the amendment involved an appropria—tion and should be ruled out of order. After a brie! discussion. the chair‘man of committees, Hon. J. A, Hanan. iruled the amendment. in order. but it ‘was defeated by 23 votes to 10. The Bill was read a third time and passed, and the Council rose at 12.35 till to—morrow.
