ANNUAL MEETING. THE YEAR'S ACTIVITIES, CHAIRMAN IKE-ELECTED. The increasing popularity of the Lake.Reser\'e was commented upon in the annual report. presented at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Do< main Board last. evening. The chairman. Mr \V. 11. Paul, presided, Also Present were Messrs J. R. Fuw. 11. Hoden. E. Phillips—Turner. A. H. Swarbrick. Dr. H. Douglas and .\lr G.~Bo.yos (secretary).
In his annual report the chairman stated that during the past year tho maintenance of the board‘s parks and grounds had been carried out. includ‘ ing the lake golf links which had lwen well maintained and were In good mu der.
A new nursery had been started an the lake to replace the old one “hirh
was too small. The new nursery had been planted with young trees of various kinds which will be planted out when they are large enough. Over 2000 Auorud Trees. In the nursery there are over 2000 assorted trees including 500 pinus insignia. Young native trees have been planted in the new plantation opposite the golf links and in other parts of the lake. Fifteen Phoenix palms have also been planted bringing the total up to 30. Several plots of grass have been sown down during the year and 150 hydrangeas have been planted along the side of the roadway near the‘hathtng sheds. Proposed Improvements. “ The scheme of extensive improvements at the bathing area is still under consideration," the report continues, “and when funds permit it is intended to carry these out. The publio are using the lake reserve in increasing numbers each year and it is exceedingly popular with schools from a. Wide area for picnics. The completion of the road from Ruakiwi Street to Kiilarney Road has greatly improved the lake reserve.“ The report added that the board had under consideration the extension of Galloway Park and negotiations were still taking place with one of the tenants to make this extension possible Election 01 omoera. In proposing that Mr \V. H. Paul be re-elected chairman. Mr J. R. Fow stated that, all the members recognised the services Mr Paul had rendered in. his work as chairman. The public i were well aware of the work put int by Mr Paul. hut the members were. in‘ a position to appreciate better what. Mr Paul had achieved.
