WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
AT T! AWAMUTU. The monthly meeting or the Te Awamutu Women‘s Institute was held in the Parish Hall. Te Awamutu, on May a, Mrs Burchell, the presidenl- W - siding over an attendance or alhout 60 members. A considerable amount 0! business was dealt with and an enjoyable atternoon was spent. The main business of the meeting we. the discuslon on the forthcoming Dominion Conference. to be held in Dunedin in July. A delegate was appointed tom the Te Awamutu Institute to Ittend the conference. Mrs W. Locke read an interesting account of her visit to Hamilton as the Te Awam-utu delegate to the Dis—tfle Federation annual meeting last month. The detailed account of the meeting was greatly appreciated by the members and the speaker was ac—corded a very hearty vote of thanks for her address. An interesting and instructive lecture was glven by Dr. Rogers, of To Awamutu. and following the address the lecturer answered many questions. The members expressed a keen desire for more lectures at a similar nature and the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the time he haul given to the Institute. Formation of Drama Club. Following the general business a ‘Mma club was formed with the iiilention or providing further entertainment. it is proposed to hold an open nis’ht later in the year. Mrs Allin Kay offered her services as con\'enor and stated that there were already 18 members in the club. She hoped to increase this number to 30. Following afternoon tea delightful dances were given by little Valerie Richards (Highland Fling). and Elaine North (fancy tap dance). AT 'I'E KAWA. The monthly meeting of the Te Kewa Women's Institute was held in the hell recently. when despite the inclement weather there was a good attendance. Mrs S. Broadbent *presid—ing. A notice was read from the Dominion Federation and the preliminary agenda paper read. One new member was welcomed and two who are leaving the district farewelled. An interesting and instructive paper on “ Burns and Scalds" was presented by Mrs A. S‘L‘hOIES, and questions were invited and answered 'by the lecturer. The roll call, “The most wonderful thin-s I have seen," elicited a wide range of subjects. The competitions, a dish garden. and two varieties or Jellies, produced good entries, those of the former being remarkably good. Mrs Lumsden was lime winner of this section, with Mrs Clover-dale second. and Mrs Chestnut
third. The jelly competition was won by Mrs Stewart. with Mrs Ashton sec—ond and Mesdames Lumsden and Chestnut third. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Lluverdulu and Miss McLean. FAREWELL PARTY. Mrs \\'. L. Hughes, for some time president of the Ngaruawahia \Vomen's lnsliiuttu “us given a. fare—well by the members in the Orange limit on Friday. Mrs Menzies. ‘ Musical items were given by Mesdames C. E. \\'ilson. \V. Martin, Misses l E. Starr and P. Hatton. Mrs Loughnan spoke feetingly of the services Mrs Hughes had rendered ‘the Institute and asked Mrs Fuller to ,make the presentation of a brass Jar—‘diniere.
