SATURDAY’S MATCHES.
. LOW STANDARD OF PLAY. 1 W'ANDERERS DISAPPOINT. The senior game at Srddnn Park on Saturday between Pnkcmirn and Hamilton \\'andercrs. gave followers of the code little to enthuse, over. neither of the teams making more than a mediocre showing, both displaying a lamentable tar]; of combined effort. it was only to he expected that the initial match would he a hit rugged. but the standard or play on Saturday was well below what is expected of senior teams. \\’andcrers tired very badly in the second spell and it. was then that. Pukemtro established a commanding lead. It the Hamilton team want to finish the season at the top of the championship ladder they will have to work themselves into‘better condition for forth-coming fixtures. More Enterprise Shown. More enterprise was shown by the players in the Rotowaro—Claudelands Rovers game and the standard of football was generally higher than that at. Seddon Park. Neither team scored in a hard fought draw. Playing their first game. in senior Soccer, the recently promoted Glen Massey team went, down to the more oxpdricnretd Starr-Town team ‘by a margin of four goals. but they can be expected to supply stern opposition for any team in the competition. Good Individual Displays. Some creditable individual displays were given in the game at Seddon Park. Com-right half, for Pukemiro. was sound throughout, and should develop into a high class player. while J. Adams. centre forward. made the most of the opportunities afforded him to score three of his sides‘ five goals. Although still in his teens C. Crabb, a Junior, who was tempor—arily promoted, showed undoubted ability. It is probable that when some of the \Vanderers who were ab—sent t’rom Saturday's team return. this young player will be transferred back to Junior football. ‘but this will probably be to his advantage as young players are apt to be lmooked about when prematurely proomted to senior football. Promoted Juniors Prominent. The game at. Roiowam was notable for the surprisingly gnarl form shown by ihrcn promoted juniors of Claude—lanris' hovers, Moore, Parker and Davis. Chatham Cup Competition. So far only one entry, that of Rotownro, has been received by the secre—tary or the South Auckland Football Association for the Chatham Cup competition. which consists 01‘ a knock-1 out series open to club teams or the whole Dominion. Entries closed yesterday. but it is still possible for late entries to be received.
