FINE 0F £IOO IMPOSED. SEQUEL T 0 MAN'S DEATH. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. A fine or £IOO, to be pad within three months, was imposed by Mr Jusilce Fair in the Supreme Court, Auckland, yesterday, on John Reginald Smith, aged 80, company manager, who was found guilty by a jury last week of negligently driving a motor—car so as to cause death. The accident, as a result of which John William Beeston. aged 69, met his death, occurred at the corner or Manukau Road and the Great Souih Road on the night of February 23. Mr R. Singer. who appeared for prisoner, recalled that a very strong recommendation to mercy had been added to illc,jury‘s verdict. In its ‘unanimous opinion “the deceased con‘irilnulmi in no small degree to the disusler.“
