BANDS.

(To the Editor.) Sim—Regarding the nom-de-plume, ”Credit Where Credit 15 Due," how that old saying is abused. To place it under the letter headed “Bands." ap—pearing in Thursday's issue, is an instance. Every level—thinking citizen gives credit where credit is due. and all say “Good luck to the Citizens‘ Band on winning the Boosey Shield." Now. why should one individual think such an effort (as it surely must have been an effort to the writer) as lhe letter appearing in Thursday‘s issue is going to help the band in the eyes of the people? it certainly leads to the contrary.

And. again, the list of winners of the shield in past. ycax‘s- Compare the competition in the L‘JRFS when such hands as Nelson, \Vellington, Inver—uut'gill. eta, won the shieldfileatling New Zealand B grade bands, whereas now it is amongst u few struggllng combinations, certainly not. in line with New Zealand's best B grades of to—day. This Is not, meant to belittle the performance of [he Ullizens' Band, but merely to Show how weak the Thursday writer's argument is In referring to that list.

Regarding Anzac parade: At present there is only one reuugulsed band in the town, the \Valkulo lleglmental and Hamilton .\luniclpul Band, and leading officials are quite in order in recog—ujslng that as such. Unlll the new formation is given omcial recognition lel. such trivial matters rest.

I do not know anything of the recent split. apart from what appeared in the press but I cannot understand men who are supposed to be in a hand for the pleasure of providing music (the right spirit) wanting to “out" a band by forming another loom—blnation, or individuals writing letters to the paper asking for recognition for the new band. in that case I‘say, “Bravo the Boys, Hamilton‘s tulure leading- ciiizens and musicians.” i am not going to be drawn into a letter—writing competition. This is my first and last. Let the matter rest. Time will ieil.—l am, eic., HAMILTONIAN. Hamilton, May 8.
