HAMILTON ORPHANS.

‘ NEW SEASON OPENED. l The opening night of the Hamilton iOrphan Club's 1936 season took place lat the W'lnter Show Hall on Saturday evening, the president. Mr R. R. Paterison, presiding. At the outset members ‘stood in silence in respect to the memory of the late King. In his opening remarks the president expressed his gratitude to visit—iing members who had come from other towns for the occasion. He also welcomed new members of whom there ‘were a large number present. "We are assured of a successful session." :lie concluded. “\Ve have a large ‘membership and a strong executive." iThe guests included Sir Alexander lYoung, a former either of the club, Fur H. White, president of the Te jAwamutu Club, and Messrs Francis land Aston, ofilcers of the Taumarunui iSavase Club. i Several telegrams were received ‘from associated bodies in Auckland, Devonport, \\'ellington and Thames. wishing the Hamilton Club a success—ful season. Apologies were received from the Hon. \V‘. Lee Martin, Mil. Dr. F. D. Pinfold, and Messrs F. Kirk—wood, G. Kingston, J. Newby and \\’. Phillips. Tributes to the Hamilton Club were paid by Sir Alexander Young, Mr Francis and Mr White, the latter ex—pressing the great advantage of orphandoni in the exploitation of amateur talent. “ Hamilton is fortunate in possessing so mur‘h talent. and that of such a high standard too," he said. in addition to many items gi\'en by the Orphans’ Orchestra, a varied pmgramme by loading performers was presented, as follows: Mr li.
