SHOCKING INJURIES
KILLED IN CAR SMASH. CATIPULTED THROUGH ROOF, RELATIVE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Mr Lincoln George Armstrong, son of Mr Joseph Armstrong, of Akaroa, was killed instantly in a car smash at 7 o’clock last evening on the Tai Tapu-Akaroa main highway. The left-hand side of the car struck the side of a culvert with the result that- the machine somersaulted sideways and came t.o rest yards away from the point of impact. Mr Lincoln Armstrong was catapulted partly through the roof and wdien the car rolled over he was terribly injured about the head and killed instantly. Though severely shaken, the other occupants of the car escaped injury. An inquest was opened at noon before Mr Levin, S.M., the coroner, but there was a hitch when it was found that a. cousin who had been called to give evidence of identification could not do so as the injuries received by the dead man were so severe. Later, however, the body was identified by a friend. He said the dead man was 20 years of age and had resided with his parents at Akaroa although laterly he had been residing at New Brighton. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
