CASHIER COMPLIMENTED
CAPTURE OF BANK RAIDER. “ I wish all bank officials were aa prompt and as fast runners as you arc,” remarked Mr. Walter chairman of Ealing magistrates, London, in complimenting Mr. Roy Darling ton, a bank cashier, for the way he tackled a man who carried out a daylight raid on Barclay’s Bank, Ealing Broadway. Thomas Weston, aged 43, labourei, of no fixed address, was sentenced to six mouths’ hard labour for stealing £7B in notes from the bank. Mr] Dai lington told the magistrates:— “I was attending to two customers at the counter when I saw a hand reach over the grill and snatch bundle of rotes. 1 looked up and saw amun on the counter holding on to the grill with his right hand and thrusting a bundle of notes into his pocket with his left hand. “lie jumped down, and I shouted ‘Stop that man!’ I jumped on to the counter and over the grill, and chased him along the Broadway into Oxford road, where 1 caught him. ’’ Police Constable Berry related that he saw Darlington catch hold of Weston and bring him to the pavement. On being arrested Weston said, “It is all right. I will give you all the notes I have.” On his being searched £7B in notes were found in his overcoat pocket. Twenty previous convictions w«re recorded against Weston, including sentences for being a reputed thief.
