THINGS NEEDED
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Some two weeks ago you quoted what the Berliner Tageblatt paper had said regarding the war between Italy and the League, to the effect that the honours go to Italy. Personally I am not so sure of those inglorious honours going to Italy, for it is written quite clearly in the good Book: “Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord,” and this stands true ever. There will most assuredly be a reckoning day. Has not Italy defaulted greatly by gassing the innocent children of Abyssinia? And will the British Empire, together with the other members of the League, also be judged for standing by, seeing all this, without saying: “Hands off Abyssinia,” right from the outset of hostilities? Before the League of Nations can succeed and function correctly, internationally, it will have to become very much more spiritual and divine. This is the real crux of the position. Hate must be replaced with true sympathy and love. This functioning correctly, the second step must be to fix and adjust a new monetary system internationally, and the rest would 'be easy and bring us all into a happy consummation of lovle and among all men. War, with all its horrors, must go, and in its stead we must put things spiritual. What a troubled world is lacking most to-day is a most divine and spiritual leadership.—l am, etc., WATCHER. Hamilton, May 5.
