AT WAHAROA- ......— Mrs D. R. Gunn presided over the 'April meeting of the Waharoa Women's Institute. There was a good attendanoe. \ The president welcomed Walton visitors, including Mesdames Rix. Paterson. Wilson and Barlow, and then asked all to stand while she placed a laurel wreath on the Hall Memo—rial Tablet. The wreath was made by the president. During the business session it was decided to send a delegate to the Dominion Conference. to be held at Dunedin in July, and Mrs R. W. Burns was appointed. Mesdames Ryan and Gunn. who were delegates to previous Dominion conferences, wished Mrs Burns success and trusted that she would have as much pleasure and success as they had had. Mrs J.‘ Schuler was appointed delegate to the Matamata conference. Appointment of Hosts. ~55. Following a vote it was at... .'.ed to carry on with afternoon teas as in previous years. and the following were appointed hostesses for May: Mesdames Copland, Dick, Tordoi‘i, and Uresswcll. ilustcsses were asked to provide plain afternoon tests only. it was decided to hold the May meeting on May 7, owing to the school holidays interfering with the usual date. Arrangements were tinulised for the visit of Miss Stops. Poppins from the lleiurnvll Soldiers‘ Association were distrihutrd for sale. The roll-rail for lltu nl'ternuon, “\\'hat 1 Should Lilie' to See on the institute Programme." brought forth many valuable suggestions. Before rolling on the demonstrators for the afternoon Mrs Gunn asked Mrs Rix to speak about the coming council meeting at Matainatu. Competition Results. ' Mrs Rlx mentioned her great plea—nure in revisiting her first instltute and hoped someone would propose her as a member, as she would like to rejoin. This request was received with applause and was complied with. Mrs Paterson gave a clear and in—teresting demonstration of bottling fruit. various samples being shown Competitions were as follows: Bowl of flowers. Mrs \Vathen and Mrs Ryan 1, Mrs, L. Cubls 2. Mrs C. Barker 3; tomato jam. Mrs Ryan 1. Mrs Barker 2, Mrs Uunu 3. Mrs Rix and Mrs Paterson were the judges. Songs given by Mrs Williams were much appreciated. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Paton. Petch and Wright and Missc‘s Hether—ington and \\'hitworth. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
AT 1: mm. I The Te Uku Women‘s Instltute'sl sixth birthday party and dance was held in the Memorial Hall on Friday. Although the night was boisterous there was a large assemblage of mem—bers and visitors. The lblrthday cake was made by Mrs Death and iced by ‘Mlsses C. and P. Death. ? During the even-lug a presentation ‘0! a beautiful salad bowl was made to Mrs J. H. Dent, whose 'untiring efforts as secretary contribute greatly to the sue-cess of the Women’s Institute e-n----tertainments. The arrangements for the party and dance were in the hands of the younger members, who had worked to make it a. success. “The younger members also staged a play which was well acted and enjoyed lby the audi—ence. Extras were played by Mrs Sil—cock and music for the dancing was supplied by Gilmour Brothers’ Band, of Raglan. '
