STRONG TONE

BRISKER BEEF DEMAND. ‘ . VALUES A'l' FRANK'I’ON. PIGS IN KEEN REQUEST. A stronger tone was apparut throughout all sections at the weekly stock sale at Frankton yesterday when both cattle and sheep were on offer to increased numbers. The keen oper—ation of a large bench of buyers maintained last week‘s price levels, any fluctuation being of a minor nature. Keener demand was shown a moderate supply of ox beef which comprised better quality descriptions than inst Tuesday. All entries sold briskly with a stronger tone throughout the sale. lloavier sorts were not so ready of sale as light to medium sorts but sold at full late rates. Best pens sold to £lO 173 per head, with light sorts selling to £9 55. with the price per 100 lb. realising from 265 to 285. Few pens carrying prime flnish were included in the cow and heifer beef section, but under stronger ‘competition an excellent sale resulted for the majority of classes. Prime medium sorts were in keen request and prices per head for best sorts ranged from £5 to £6 45, with the price per 100 lb. ranging from 233 to 25:. Sheep and Pine. Fat sheep were forward in heavy numbers. but the increased supply did not detrimentally affect values. \Vhile the quality was not. up to that of last ’l‘uesday‘ there was no slackening in the demand and no alteration in late quotations was recorded. Wethers were keen of sale with ewes isell- i ing at firm values. A good entry of lambs met a buoyant market and all‘ pens were traded at prices that were ii‘ully on a par with those ruling at miller centres. ~ The market was well held for both norkers and baconers with a stronger inne apparent during some stages of‘ the sale. Many pens were traded at (365, while occasional sales were made at 675, the highest figure obtained at Frankton this season. A quiet sale resulted for stores, but the market tone was slightly stronger than last week. Price Summary.
