THE HAMILTON GLIDER CLUB.
- (To the Editor.) Sir, —I reference to “Ca’ Canny’s" letter I wish to express my appreciation of his condemnation of the unfair attack on the chairman of the . Hamilton Glider Club by “War and Peace Time Pilot." “ Ca’ Canny’s ’’ advice concerning the necessity for the exercise of caution is sound and will be appreciated by members of the Glider- Club. We are fully aware of the fact that the risk involved in this sport must be reduced to a minimum, and we have proceeded in that direction by having our machine inspected by a qualified ground engineer. His opinion is that the workmanship displayed in the construction of the local machine emulates that of many factory products. One man who has built and successfully flown four gliders himself came a considerable distance to inspect the machine, and expressed himself as agreeably surprised, and even declared that it was the most elaborate, and soundly constructed job of its kind has had seen. As for the actual flying it must be realised that as gliding in the Dominion is in its infancy there are very few men who •have actually flown gliders. However, we are only too pleased to be advised by flying men who feel disposed to assist us, and at present we are seeking a “Deus ex machina” in such a form. In the meantime everything 'in our power is being done for the safety of gliding and the protection of members. In conclusion I wish to emphasise the i fact that we are fully aware of the necessity for proceeding warily, and • I take this opportunity of asking for , the assistance and co-operation o' experienced flying men. —I am, eto., W. S. JORDAN, Hon. Secretary, Hamilton Glider Club.
