TE AROHA STABLES.

SEVERAL TEAMS WORKING

THE LATEST FROM THE TRACKS

(Special to Times.) TE AROHA, Friday. For some months training operations have been retarded consequent upon the alterations to the galloping tracks necessitated by the formation of a new course. During the winter about half a mile of the back stretch of the old course, and the same length of plough, were the only portions available for work, but some weeks ago the new plough gallop of over nine furlongs became open for work, and during any fine spells of weather- this has been freely used. The inner grass track, on which there is now a nice sward of grass, was/well rolled during the week, and will probably be onen for work this month, then galloping will be in full swing, and Te Aroha will again be included in list of live training centres. M. L. Llpsey’s Team. M. Lipsey Is one of the younger ranks of trainers, but he is very thorough and painstaking in his work, so will seldom lack for horses to occupy his boxes. At present lie has Town Bird and Hangawera, both of which are listed for the Te Rapa sale, a Valkyrian filly owned by a wellknown sportswoman of the district, a filly by Marble Arch —Bonnie Fishwife, and a Marble Arch —Amans Queen gelding. The latter is one of the best constitutioned yet seen of the Marble Arch tribe, while the Bonnie Fishwife descendant is a fine type of galloper. J. H. Wallace’s Quintette.

Perhaps the best team here just now is that of J. H. Wallace. It includes Sir Russell, a good winner last season, who about six weeks ago underwent an operation for respiratory troubles at the hands of Dr. W. C. Ring. This appears to have been thoroughly successful, for the Archiestown gelding is back on the tracks and looking especially well. Antique, after being splendidly wintered, rejoined the ranks of track workers. The Tonbridge representative has furnished into a commanding stamp, with quality and strength. He is bounding along in his work in a manner that denotes he should this season be a performer of real merit. He is to run in the colours of his trainer, who has secured a lease. Lucky Alice has not been a successful as expected, but there is ample time for her in wh'ich to make amends. A three year old gelding by Lucullus—Miss Floss, therefore a halfbrother to Sir Russell, is a really fine type. Nearly black in colour he will be noted for strength. He greatly resembles his sire. Not having been raced as a two-year-old will be in his favour, for he has been allowed time in which to develop. Lady Vane, the runner-up to King Colossus In the Avondale Stakes, showed, sprinting ability from the outset, but when galloped on the plough appeared to have gone back somewhat. She was at a disadvantage ■in the Stakes by laok of previous barrier practice, and by not having taken part in juvenile parades.

A. E. Cox’s Horses. A. E. Cox’s stable shelters Black Maire, Glenison, Miss Albyn, Indolent and Star Lap. The first-named was on the easy list for some months consequent upon a general stiffness of his joints. Special treatment had a good effect and latterly he has been executing satisfactory work. He ran a good race at Avondale, and his next start will be at the Waikato Hunt meeting on Labour Day. Glenison is just striking form, and Miss Albyn, the full-sister to Woody Glen, . has become so solid that a win for her should not be far distant. Indolent, for a long time on'e of the extremely lean kind, has thickened out very materially, and his condition leaves very little to be desired. Star Lap by Sandstar—Waipoto, is a two-year-old filly that should make a name for herself on the turf. She is wellnice hind quarters and cmfwyp cmfwy grown, muscular, with good fore end, nice turned quarters and hard flat bone. She already gives evidence of being able to gallop.

Master Latour. Master. Latour’s owner can be given credit for wintering his horse really well, and also for giving him the right work since. The big gelding, in appearance, would do credit to any stable. It is intended to race him at Cambridge, and it would not be very surprising if he ran into the money. C. R. Wallace's Horses. This trainer won last year with Bahama and White Ringlet. This season he may be more successful for he has Armenia, Limlnt, a two-year-old Day Comet filly and White Ringlet. Armenia is by Lucullus—Miss Kolmar, and will he raced at Ellerslie on Saturday. White Ringlet will join the track workers in a few days, as also will the Day Comet filly. The latter is a two-year-old filly, a full-sister to Gay Comet, which was presented recently to Wallace by Mr R. Burke, of Waihou, She is well-grown, and formed on galloping line, and will he expected to emulate the performances of the Day Comet family. G. A. Reid at Matamata. At present, and probably until the opening of the inner grass track here G. A. Reid is working his charges at Matamata. The team includes Glenstar, Valstreet, Lady Musk and Distress. Lady Musk is a two-year-old by Musketoon —Miss Amans, therefore a half-sister to King Arch and Marble King. Distress is a fine big chestnut gelding by Tribulation—Our King —Mauriora mare. He is a typical cross-country horse, and is in the right hands to bring him out as a performer. Track Work. At the local course yesterday morning serviceable work was allotted Miss Albyn, Black Maire, Indolent, Glenison, Star Lap, Lucullus gelding, Town Bird, Marble Arch gelding and Antique. The old grass track was too heavy for fast work, but judging by the sprints witnessed, all the participants are well forward.
