SHORT OF FUNDS.
BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
SUBSIDY OVERDRAWN.
NO NEW WORK POSSIBLE. With an ever-increasing demand on its good services, considerable difficulty is being experienced by t'he Hamilton Beautifying Society in finding the necessary finance to meet even its present modest programme. Every year replacements, in addition to ordinary maintenance, are necessary, but unless some fairy godmother comes to the aid of the Society this year many of these replacements will have to stand over until some future date, when the requisite money is available. The expenditure of the Society over the past five months 'has been £765, and the Borough Council subsidy has been overdrawn to the extent of £350. It was pointed out by the chairman, Mr W. H. Paul, at the Society’s meeting last evening, that provided they did not go in for any additional expenditure they would probably just be able to meet their obligations. “We are not able to face t'he question of any new work, and I should be very sorry to see us having to discharge any of our men,” said Mr Paul.
