CAR SOMERSAULTS.
ACCIDENT AT HOROTIU. SKIDDED IN MUD POOL. OCCUPANTS INJURED. Skidding in a muddy pool on the side of the road, a Whippet saloon car turned a complete somersault on the Hamilton-Ngaruawahia Road near Horotiu, about' 1 p.m. to-day. The car was the property of and was driven by Mr William Roberts, motorman, of Kiwi Road, Epsom. Mr Roberts was accompanied by his wife and they were just commencing their annual holiday and were on their way to visit friends, Mr. and Mrs Skidmore, of Tawa Road, Hamilton.
After turning over the car righted itself again on the grass margin of the road, but facing in the opposite direction to which it had been travelling. Ml's Roberts was fairly badly knocked about, several ribs being fractured while she received a nasty scalp wound and shock. Her husband was cut about the forehead and received superficial cuts, abrasions and slight shock. They were helped into the Horotiu school house nearby, w'hcre Mrs Jack did what she could for them until the arrival of medical aid. Husband and wife were later removed to the Waikato Hospital where Mrs Roberts was admitted as a patient. Mr Roberts was able to leave after having his head wound dressed. The car received fairly substantial damage, the steering wheel being completely splintered, the windows shattered, the hood crushed, the doors sprung, the mudguards crushed in and the lamps smashed. The wonder is that the occupants did not receive more extensive injuries.
