HAMILTION BOROUGH.
THE COUNCIL MEETING. LIGHTS FOR LONDON STREET. ■ The Hamilton Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, presiding. Also present were Crs. C. Rafferty, S. V. Tyler, F. 11. Clapham, F. J. Farrell, R. Gobbe, J. E. Tidd, F. W. Luxford, W. Bourne, and (Messrs R. Worley (engineer), W. L. Waddel (town clerk) and I. Webster (electrical engineer). Approval was granted to have centre span lights erected in London Street at a cost of £42, instead of the present bracket lights. Vehicle Licenses. Vehicle licenses were granted to H. A. Earley (public motor cab), M. J. Hansen (taxi), N. B. Stewart (taxi), J. 11. Dalbeth (three taxis), and H. A. W. Stevenson (motor bus), subject to police approval. Obstetrical Appeal. The Obstetrical Endowment Appeal Fund, Hamilton Local Executive, thanked the council for authority to hold a flag day and for the donation of £25 towards the appeal. Training Quarters. The Frankton and City Football Clubs’ applications for the use of the Horse Bazaar for training purposes were granted on the usual terms. Rifle Range Road. The Frankton School Committee thanked the council for its promise to extend the present footpath in Rifle Range Road to the boundary of Frankton School. Motor Camp. Messrs B. Hobson and E. W. Taine, as ratepayers in the vicinity of Hillsboro’ Terrace, expressed their approval of the council’s action in closing the motor camp, and protested against any proposal to reopen it in the same place. They expressed the opinion that the close proximity of the camp to their properties detracted from the value, and the camp being so close its presence was at times uncomfortable and unpleasant. The site in any case was too close to the centre of the town. Ply for Hire Fees. In applying for exemption fop ply for hire fees, J. Robison, service car proprietor of Kawhia, stated he did not ply for hire, but merely set down and picked up passengers for Kawhia at a booking office. He pointed out that through his .service fro-m Kawhia to Hamilton he brought to the latter several thousand pounds per annum in the way of commissions foe settlers and his own business. If he made Te Awamulu his terminus instead of Hamilton it would make just that difference to Hamilton business firms. The matter was referred to the General Purposes Committee.
