OKLAHOMA IN JEOPARDY

THREATENED BY STREAM OF OIL I MILES OF COUNTRY REPORTED TO BE INUNDATED. MANY VALUABLE FARMS ABANDONED. INHABITANTS FLEE IN FRANTIC FRIGHT. C United Press Association. —Electric Telegram.—Copyright.) (Received April 3, 10.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 2. A message from Oklahoma City states that one of the greatest lire hazards was created here when a new gusher was brought in near the city, it had been spouting daily for six days, as much as 2 00,000 barrels of oil, under an impetus of 2,000,000 cubic feet of gas oil. . Workers have been unable to control the well, which is one of the most sensational gushers in American petroleum exploitation. The entire area within a mile and a-half radius, including many valuable farms, has been abandoned. ■ People arc standing waist-deep in the oil, streams of which have floated as far as ten miles away. All efforts to collar the well have failed, and a spark would imperil the city, creating a floating fire. The inhabitants are fleeing from the area. One hundred other wells nearby have been abandoned. The losses run into many millions.
