LATEST BOWLING.
THE HARDLEY SHIELD. INTER-CENTRE contest. AUCKLAND v. SOUTH AUCKLAND. The return match between the Auckland and South Auckland Centres for the I-lardley Shield was played at the Hamilton Bowling Club’s greens today. Morning and afternoon games, each of 25 heads, were decided upon. The Aucklanders sent down 11 rinks, in the personnel of which were included many of the most prominent players of the Auckland Centre, amongst whom may be mentioned Messrs. S. Jenkin and G. Gladding, winners of the Dominion pairs and Auckland Centre pairs contests this season.
The president of the South Auckland Centre, Mr. R. N. Pilkinglon, welcomed the visitors in a brief speech, during'which he look occasion to congratulate Messrs. Jenkin and Gladding upon their achievements in winning Iwo of the principal pairs contests of this season.
Air. S. Coldicutt, president of the Auckland Centre, replied on behalf of the visitors and in doing so congratulated the Hamilton Club and its green superintendent (Mr. N. .Bell) upon the magnificent condition of the greens so iate in the season. On behalf of Auckland bowling clubs he thanked Messrs. Bell and W. M. Horlon for I heir address to howling officials of i I]e northern city recently regarding treatment of greens, from which the Auckland Clubs expected to reap much profit. Mr. J. W. Hard ley, donor of the shield, also spoke, expressing pleasure al being present at such a fine gathering of good howlers and good sportsmen. On tile first match this season, played on- December -i, 1929, Soulh Auckland were eight games down. The Morning Games.
