MATAMATA COURT

SHORT LIST. In the Matamata Magistrate’s Court, C. Shaw appeared v. T. Taylor in a claim for £lO, the alleged value of a dog killed by defendant’s car. Conilicting evidence was given as to the value of the dog by the plaintiff and his witness. It was held by counsel that an agreement had been arrived at between the parties whereby the defendant was to supply a pup to replace the animal killed. The. plaintiff was non-Suited with costs to defendant. Railway Breach. Maurice George Neems was charged with attempting to cross the railway line when it was not clear. . Evidence was given that. Neems in trying to avoid some children failed to notice an approaching train. He was convicted and ordered to pay costs. Charge Against LadCharges of stealing two small sums of money were entered against a lad whose name was suppressed. The charges were dismissed under the Offenders Probation Act, without penally. Cruelty of Husband. Margaret Sweeney complained (of the persistent cruelty of her husband, Maurice Sweeney and asked that she be not forced to cohabit with him and that the guardianship of two chi 1,clreu he committed to her and claimed maintenance for herself and the two children. Judgment by consent was given accordingly with maintenance of £1 per week for complainant and 10s per week for each child.
